Tinariwen with support / gyda chefnogaeth gan Kizzy Crawford

EVENT TAKES PLACE AT CARDIGAN CASTLE

WITH SUPPORT FROM KIZZY CRAWFORD

DOORS: 18:30

MUSIC FROM: 19:45

Tinariwen are the kings and queens of ‘assouf’ (guitar poetry) who have become one of the most successful and exciting African musical exports. Their rolling, yearning grooves and uncompromising messages of simplicity and freedom, distilled over years of struggle, rebellion and exile, have earned them countless accolades and citations, and the attention of high-profile fans such as Robert Plant, Carlos Santana, The Edge and Thom Yorke, and the enduring respect of their own people. Massively influential, incredibly exciting, this is music from the beginning of time to move both your soul and your feet.

Kizzy Crawford

A Welsh speaker with Bajan heritage, 20 year old Kizzy Crawford's solo career began just three years ago and in that time, Kizzy has developed an increasing sophistication to her songwriting and performance, which is complimented by her soulful voice that boasts both range and charisma.

Free pre-show talk with your ticket

We have a lovely opportunity for Tinariwen audience members to come along to a pre-show talk from Andy Morgan. Andy is a writer, journalist, the band’s former manager and is currently working on a book about Tinariwen and the making of the modern Sahara.  He is also a close friend of the band and it will be a nice opportunity to learn a little more about where this incredible music comes from before going on to enjoy it!

We are offering this for free on a first come first served basis for ticket holders for the Tinariwen gig. Doors open at 6:30 and the talk will take place at 6.45 in the
Pavilion. The show starts at 7.45.

these guitar players from Mali play these amazing riffs… so I copied their style and improvised.
Thom Yorke, Radiohead
Listening to Tinariwen is like dropping a bucket into a deep well.
Robert Plant
proper rebels, and what a wonderful way to advertise a problem to the world: through music… you don’t have to understand the words to hear something deeper in it. It’s the mood that says it all
Damon Albarn
when I hear them I hear the beginning of the music of the Mississippi and of Muddy Waters, Jeff Beck, BB King... this is where it all comes from, they are the originators.
